A Journey Through Timanfaya
The photographic exhibition Timanfaya, arte creado por el volcán, by ethnographer and landscape photographer José María Barreto, is open to the public at the former Casa de los Volcanes, located at Jameos del Agua.
This exhibition is the result of a photographic journey through the rugged landscapes and striking rock formations of Timanfaya National Park. José María Barreto’s previously unpublished photographs capture the rich colours and textures shaped by one of the largest volcanic eruptions of the modern era. Through his lens, visitors can witness vegetation reclaiming the mineral landscape and life emerging in what appears to be an inert territory.
The exhibition also conveys a message of respect for the Earth, the place where our origins lie. Barreto invites visitors to contemplate a complex natural system where time, space, beauty, stillness and geological diversity coexist.
The exhibition is open during the regular opening hours of Jameos del Agua. Admission to the exhibition is included with the entrance ticket to the centre.
