About the performance

This contemporary dance piece, conceived for non-conventional spaces, draws inspiration from traditional Canarian dances and the iconic image of the Lanzarote peasant woman. Through movement, music and the visual power of the performance, the work creates a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression, honouring the memory of the women who, for generations, sustained life and work in Lanzarote’s rural communities.

On stage, two dancers represent two generations of rural women: youth and maturity, experience and renewal, past and present. Their bodies evoke hard work, resilience and a deep connection to the land, transforming everyday gestures into a contemporary choreographic language that celebrates the island’s cultural and human heritage.

The piece does not seek to reproduce folklore literally, but rather to reinterpret it from a contemporary perspective. Original music by Benito Cabrera accompanies this journey between memory and contemporary creation, while natural light and the outdoor setting become essential elements of the performance experience.
