Juan Brito's Legacy
Sculpture, oral tradition and technology come together to reinterpret one of the great stories of Lanzarote's cultural heritage
Juan Brito and Princess Ico: un viaje mitológico is an exhibition by the Juan Brito Foundation, selected as part of the 2025 Cultural Projects Call organised by the Art, Culture and Tourism Centres of Lanzarote. The exhibition brings together the 22 original sculptures created by Juan Brito Martín (1919–2018), offering visitors an insight into the legend of Princess Ico and other characters from Lanzarote’s oral tradition.
Through interactive resources, each sculpture features a QR code providing access to audiovisual content and narrated stories, including a recreation of the artist’s own voice using artificial intelligence.
Designed for audiences of all ages, the exhibition is available in Spanish, English and German, presenting a journey that combines art, heritage and technology to celebrate Juan Brito’s legacy and one of the most representative expressions of Lanzarote’s cultural identity.
