Matria

Synopsis

Matria is a musical and theatrical journey through memory, exploring the roots and transformation of women in the Canary Islands.

The project is the result of five years of research and encounters with 210 women from across the Canary Islands, whose life stories, memories and experiences lie at the heart of the work.

Drawing on this legacy, Caracolas creates a performance in which oral tradition, inherited memory and traditional Canarian music come together with contemporary forms of expression. Testimonies gathered through cultural heritage preservation projects such as Las Quince, Las Seis de Aguere, Mujeres de Fuego y Lava, Empaquetadora and Roseteras de Arona form the narrative thread of the piece.

On stage, the voices and experiences of the women who came before us take on a new dimension, connecting past, present and future.

Matria comes to the Jameos del Agua Auditorium on 24 October, where memory, music and performance come together to share the stories that shape this project.
