On November 30, the natural stage of Jameos del Agua will shine as it welcomes Mastodonte, the acclaimed musical project by Asier Etxeandia and Enrico Barbaro. As part of the Festival of Performing Arts of Lanzarote: ESCENA, this artistic duo will present their new show, Belleza y Perdón (Beauty and Forgiveness), delivering an immersive experience that transcends the traditional concert format.

The Band: Mastodonte

Mastodonte, a groundbreaking musical project captivating audiences across Spain with its bold, multidisciplinary approach, is the creative partnership of two exceptional artists: Asier Etxeandia and Enrico Barbaro. Formed in 2018, this collaboration has brought forth one of the most original and exciting acts in today’s music scene.

Asier Etxeandia, Born in Bilbao in 1975, Asier Etxeandia is a versatile performer known for his acting career in films, theater, and television, with roles in Pedro Almodóvar’s Dolor y Gloria and the series Velvet and Sky Rojo. Despite his successes in the performing arts, his passion for music has always been there. In Mastodonte, his powerful voice and magnetic stage presence come together to create unforgettable performances.

Enrico Barbaro , born in Naples in 1969, brings his extensive musical expertise as a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. He has collaborated with renowned artists like Amistades Peligrosas, Camilo Sesto, and Carmen Linares. As Mastodonte‘s sonic architect, Barbaro crafts harmonious soundscapes that brilliantly complement Etxeandia’s dynamic energy.

The chemistry between these two creatives is evident both on and off stage. Etxeandia describes Barbaro as “Europe’s most multidisciplinary musician,” while Barbaro calls Etxeandia “Spain’s most electrifying rock sensation.” Their mutual respect and synergy lie at the heart of Mastodonte‘s unique artistry.

Mastodonte emerged naturally during quiet moments in El Intérprete, a show in which Etxeandia and Barbaro began improvising. What started as an experiment grew into a serious venture, resulting in a harmonious blend of genres—rock, hardcore, electronic, and bossa nova—that leads audiences on a journey beyond conventional musical categories.

In Mastodonte, the duo are not only musicians but storytellers and image creators. Their work goes beyond music to incorporate theatrical elements, evoking reflection and deep emotion in their audience.

The name Mastodonte

The name Mastodonte reflects the essence of their artistic vision. According to Etxeandia, it represents society’s repression and the phenomenon of false doubts. It also embodies the internal struggle for joy and forgiveness, recurring themes in their music. Barbaro describes Mastodonte’s compositions as a harmonious puzzle that reflects the strength of ancient mastodons, amplifying the power and intensity of their sound.

Since 2018, Mastodonte has revolutionized the music scene with their innovative and sensory approach. Their self-titled debut album was an immersive experience that took audiences on a unique artistic journey. This originality earned them a 2019 Latin Grammy nomination for their video “Anatomía de un éxodo.” With shows like La transfiguración del Mastodonte and Simplemente perfecto, the duo continues to push and expand the boundaries of performing arts.

Belleza y Perdón: A transcendental musical journey

Belleza y Perdón is more than a concert—it’s a musical and spiritual experience blending music, introspection, and emotion, guiding audiences on a path of self-discovery. The show features the band’s latest album as an intimate and powerful journey, moving from the sacred to a celebration of life, merging revolution with reflection.

Etxeandia and Barbaro take on the role of spiritual guides, presenting Beauty and Forgiveness as the pillars of their message. They challenge traditional beliefs and false societal idols, inviting everyone to free themselves and discover the divinity within. Their message is clear: only by embracing our true essence can we reach genuine freedom and generosity.

The show features both new songs and classics, presented as anthems in what they call a “pagan church.” The powerful music immerses attendees in a trance-like state, transforming the performance into a collective and transcendent celebration. Mastodonte becomes the soundtrack of a new era, with a message that resonates deeply with the audience.
