Waq Waq Kingdom

Waq Waq Kingdom build their sound around the meeting point between Minyo, traditional Japanese music, and styles such as Jamaican dancehall, footwork, dub, techno, tribal polyrhythms and video game soundtracks.

Shinto mythology and Matsuri, traditional Japanese festivals associated with the worship of kami, are also part of a creative universe that connects tradition, electronic music and urban culture.

Behind the project are two artists with extensive careers in experimental music. Shigeru Ishihara, also known as DJ Scotch Egg, has been part of projects such as Seefeel and Devilman. Kiki Hitomi is a singer and songwriter with King Midas Sound and has also developed her work in projects such as Black Chow and Dokkebi Q.

Kalma

The visual dimension of the live performance will be created by Kalma, a Berlin-based audiovisual artist who works with real-time processes, generative visuals, projection mapping and audiovisual performances.

Her work is based on improvisation and the direct relationship between music and image: the structures and emotions of sound are transformed into visual compositions generated during the performance itself.

With more than a decade of experience, Kalma has presented her work at festivals, clubs and venues across Europe and has collaborated with artists such as Peaches, Black Cracker, Miss Kittin and Ellen Allien.

Waq Waq Kingdom & Kalma come together for a live performance in which sound and image are created simultaneously, combining the Japanese roots and electronic sound of Waq Waq Kingdom with Kalma’s generative visual language.
